Post 7 - Screencast-O-Matic!

The most useful tool that I have learned about in this class is Screencast-O-Matic. I like it because it is easy to use and it will be great for teaching my students how to complete assignments and make use the material that I have provided for them.

Every semester, students flood my email inbox with "How do I do this..." questions, usually because they weren't paying attention in class or they were absent. So, I will provide some screencast videos to explain how to do things on my class blog.

I am also considering adding a screencast element to one of my classes, so that the students can make their own videos of how to do something. Screencasting is something that my students could benefit from by learning the skills necessary to show others how to complete a task.

This type of skill could be advantageous when searching for a job, since it could be used to help coworkers or customers. Employers are always on the lookout for potential employees with a wide variety of skills to help promote the company and connect with their customers and this would certainly qualify.

  1. I really loved learning how to do screencasts as well. For me, I didn't think it was that simple. I saw it on other webpages and on youtube, but I had no idea how people were doing it, or how to search for it as I didn't even know what it was called. I really want my students to do a screencast finding useful computer hacks on everyday computer tasks. It would be useful for them and for myself :)

  2. Jesus. Reading yours, is like reading mine. I cannot agree with you more about how easy and awesome that tool can be. I feel your pain with how every semester the same questions and how important a screencast can be with helping your kids step by step.

I agree with the notion of how employers are looking for these skills. But what advice would you have for continuing the digital educational process after this class we are taking? Have you found any additional websites that can helpful in the life long education process, especially with how fast technology moves these days?

Dude. Screencasts are my new favorite thing. Thank you for confirming that.

  3. Screencasting has saved me hours of explaining things face to face. I suggest that you organize them on a web page, or simply include a link or QR code for the screencast in your instructions.

  4. Screencasting in general is an awesome tool that I'm so happy we were introduced to in class. Like you, I have so many students emailing me, messaging or just asking me directly how to do something. I'm usually happy to help, but sometimes it can get hard on the head. Using tools like Screen-O-Matic or Screenbird will allow me to provide these answers as a whole rather than answering them over and over again individually. Not to mention that it's pretty fun for me to create the screencasts as well.

  5. Yes. 100%. There have been many great things that we have learned throughout this class and like you I think Screen Casting is awesome. It will be very easy to implement, and can be used in a variety of ways. I will definitely be using it next semester if not sooner. Saves a huge amount of time, and helps out the shy students too.
